2:40 a.m. at Incheon T1
A Delta flight from Singapore touched down at T1 at 2:40 a.m. last November. Immigration took 40 minutes, bags another 15, and the last airport bus had already rolled. I stood at Exit 12 for 50 minutes waiting on a taxi. Reached a Hongdae hotel at 4:50 a.m.
"Check-in starts at 3 p.m." The front-desk reply landed like a wall. I dozed on the lobby sofa until 7, got into the room, and crashed until 10. A paid night, mostly spent on the couch.
Ever since, I verify two things before booking: (1) a 24-hour front desk, (2) early check-in policy and fees. This page filters to the Seoul hotels that pass both.
How to Choose a Red-Eye Hotel
| Checkpoint | Why it matters | | --- | --- | | 24-hour front desk | Determines whether you can check in at 2–5 a.m. | | Airport rail walking distance | Seoul Station, Hongdae, Gongdeok, DMC are the four anchors | | Early check-in policy | Free vs. noon vs. 3 p.m. is a night-and-day difference | | Luggage hold | Lets you roam after morning checkout |
The cleanest pick is any hotel steps from a non-transfer airport rail stop: Seoul Station, Hongik University, Gongdeok, or DMC. One extra transfer doubles the perceived fatigue in my experience.

Airport Rail Stops, Station by Station
- Seoul Station — Express (43 min) and All-Stop (56 min) both terminate here. Max transfers (Line 4, Line 1). Late-night area feels average
- Hongik University (Hongdae) — Express stops. Lines 2 and Gyeongui-Jungang. The only neighborhood awake at 4 a.m.
- Gongdeok — All-Stop only. Four-line transfer (5, 6, Gyeongui-Jungang, AREX). Business-hotel density, quiet
- DMC — All-Stop. Closest Seoul stop to the airport (~35 min). Needs extra transfers for downtown
First train from the airport departs 5:30 a.m.; last train 12:00 a.m. Arrivals between 2 and 5 a.m. have only taxi or limousine bus options into the city.
Three Real Arrival Scenarios
Case 1: 2 a.m. landing — Immigration done by 3. No airport bus. Airport taxi to downtown runs KRW 40,000–70,000. Hotel arrival ~4 a.m.
Case 2: 5 a.m. landing — Out of immigration by 6. First AREX at 5:30 catchable. Arrive Seoul Station 7:08, hotel 7:30.
Case 3: 8 p.m. arrival + early-morning departure — Skip the city entirely. Darakhyu capsules at T2, airport spa facilities, or an adjacent airport hotel are more efficient.
Case 2 is the most common — and even here, a 3 p.m.-only check-in policy means a 7-hour wait. The 24-hour desk plus early check-in combo isn't optional for this pattern.

FAQ
Q. 3 a.m. check-in — do I still pay the full night? Policies vary. Some hotels add a half-day rate for the prior evening; others charge only the normal rate and preserve checkout time. Confirm before booking.
Q. Cheapest option once AREX last train has left? K-Limousine airport buses run until ~1 a.m. on select lines. After that: airport night bus (N6101 / N6000) or metered taxi.
Q. T1 vs. T2 for AREX access? T1 has direct basement access to the station. T2 requires a 5-minute walk plus two escalators.
Q. Can I drop bags and sightsee before check-in? Many hotels offer contactless luggage hold without formal check-in. Usually free; some charge KRW 1,000–3,000 per bag.
