Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hail a taxi on the street in Korea?

Yes — street hailing is still common in Korea. However, using Kakao T or Uber guarantees a fixed fare, eliminates language barriers, and provides a receipt. During peak hours (midnight Fri/Sat), app-based taxis may have surge pricing but are easier to secure than street taxis.

Do Korean taxi drivers speak English?

Most regular taxi drivers have limited English. Using Kakao T or Uber in English mode lets you communicate the destination digitally, removing the language barrier. If taking a street taxi, show the destination name in Korean on your phone.

Is tipping expected for taxis in Korea?

No — tipping is not customary in Korea and may even be declined. Simply pay the metered fare or the app price. Rounding up is not expected.

What is the fare from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

A regular taxi costs approximately KRW 75,000–90,000 to central Seoul (60–90 minutes depending on traffic). KAL Limousine and Airport Railroad (AREX) are cheaper alternatives. Kakao T and Uber are available at the airport but may show surge pricing.

Can I pay cash in Kakao T or Uber?

Uber is cashless only. Kakao T is primarily card-based in the app, but if you hail a taxi independently (non-app), you can pay cash directly to the driver at the end of the ride.
